Denver is known for being a music-lover’s paradise, so it’s only natural that the Mile High City has a variety of great venues to offer. Whether you’re looking to see a big-name act in a large venue or catch a less expensive show at a more intimate venue, Denver has countless options. From historic theaters, to bars, to outdoor venues, there’s something to fit every taste and vibe. Here are some of the best music venues to see a show at in and around Denver:

1. Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Located near Morrison, the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater has been hosting the greats and delighting audiences for many years. This naturally-formed amphitheater makes for a gorgeous backdrop and pitch-perfect acoustics. In a quick 15-mile drive from Denver, you can catch one of the best outdoor musical performances in the country.

2. Bluebird Theater

Prepare to be sent back in time as you look up at Bluebird Theater’s authentic lighted marquee sign. Even more historic character awaits you inside the theater, where you’ll find gargoyles adorning the walls of this intimate music venue. For those who appreciate a smaller space to feel connected to the band, this place fits the bill. Check their calendar to find an upcoming show.

3. Ogden Theatre

Nestled in Cap Hill, Ogden Theatre boasts a great mix of local and national acts. This spot was initially a movie theater when it opened in 1919, and it’s since transformed into the music venue many Denverites and visitors enjoy today. Though it has shifted in purpose, much of its historic charm remains. From the marquee sign to the traditional moldings, it’s a great reminder of Denver’s history. Ogden Theatre is even listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Check their website to scour the latest listings.

4. Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox

Some people believe it’s the smaller, independent venues that keep Denver vibrant and interesting. Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox fits the bill. In the heart of LoDo, this unique venue is host to all kinds of music acts — from jazz to blues to funk to hip-hop. The venue used to be a brothel, and it retains some old artwork to hint at its risqué past. They offer dinner nightly, as well as happy hour and a sunday brunch.

5. Fiddler’s Green

Located about 15 miles outside of Denver, this venue deserves to be noted due to its popularity. Another superb outdoor venue, Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre in Greenwood Village hosts some of the biggest musical acts today. The Museum of Outdoor Arts commissioned the creation of the venue in the 1980s as a large earth sculpture, complete with vast grassy hills and amazing mountain views. Buy your ticket, bring a blanket or lawn chair, and enjoy the sunset backdrop and great music.

6. Grizzly Rose

This venue is specific to country music, pleasing country fans 6 nights a week. Grizzly Rose also offers free intro dance lessons on Wednesdays and regular line-dancing and couples dance lessons. The Country Music Association ranks this venue in the top in the nation, so reserve your tickets for a great show.

7. Herb’s Hideout

Located in LoDo on Larimer Street, Herb’s Hideout is a great spot for live music. With all kinds of local acts including rock, reggae, jazz, funk, blues, and even heavy metal, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The venue is musician-owned and buzzes with musical passion. They state that their venue is “low on pretension, high on energy”, and the relaxed vibe and great artists live up to that.

In such an energetic city full of diversity, it’s only fitting that the music scene is equally unique. Take a look at some of the best music venues in and around Denver, and you’ll see how the Mile High City satisfies almost every musical taste imaginable. If you’re looking to enjoy some live music in the near future, you can’t go wrong at any of these great venues.
