For the few Denver residents who don’t partake in winter sports, the winter season can feel especially long. By the time March arrives, you may be looking for options to combat your cabin fever. A great place to start is by attending some exciting events in and around the Mile High City. Denver hosts some great cultural attractions that are sure to ease any winter blues. Here are 5 great events to get you started this March:

Denver’s monthly First Friday Art Walk gets a bit more exciting this month. The Museo de las Americas, Denver’s premier Latin American art museum, is celebrating this Cultural First Friday event with Tropical Sentimiento: Caribbean Beats. Their location in the heart of the Santa Fe Arts District makes them a perfect destination along your First Friday Art Walk. Admission to this event is free, and they’ll have live music, drinks, and the Pachucos y Sirenas Exhibition to explore. Here you’ll get to experience Bomba, one of the traditional musical styles of Puerto Rico, played by Barrio E’nsemble, a musical group including talented percussionists, dancers, and singers. Transportation during First Friday Art Walk is provided by a shuttle that circles the district from 5:30-9:30pm.
When: Saturday, March 10th, 2018; 6:30-9:30pm (doors at 6:15pm)
Where: Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre, 18300 W. Alameda Parkway, Morrison, CO
Cost: $45 includes local band performance and dinner
Just 15 miles west of the city lies the Red Rocks Amphitheatre near Morrison, CO. While incredibly popular in it’s busy summer season, they also provide a chance to enjoy the venue in their off season. Local Set is a new event taking place on Saturday, March 10th. Admission includes an intimate indoor musical performance in their Visitor Center as well as hors d’oeuvres, a delicious dinner buffet, and a complimentary welcome drink. You’ll even have the opportunity to add on a backstage tour of Red Rocks to explore the musical history of the park and it’s many legendary performers. Expect a night filled with great tunes, food, and Red Rocks history.

Looking for an exciting way to spend your St. Patrick’s Day? Mark the 2018 Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade on your calendar, and be sure to arrive early to stake out your spot. The parade itself has been running annually since its start in 1962. Built off a deep love and pride for Irish culture, the parade is run each year by volunteers who make sure the event is a fun-filled day of live music, dancing, and parading for all to enjoy. They also hold a Grand Marshal Gala on Friday, March 9th at the Sheraton Downtown. On Thursday, March 15th at 5:00pm they’ll host their Changing of the Signs event. They’ll rename Blake Street as Tooley Street, dedicated to Dale Tooley, an Irishman who was Denver District Attorney and a mayoral candidate. To celebrate, they’ll have bagpipe and Irish step-dancing performances, followed by “The Queen Paints the Town Green Tour” at 6:00pm. This starts at Jackson’s and includes visits to different Irish Pubs for festive drinks and snacks.

This event has been named America’s most creative beer festival, and for good reason. Over 100 breweries get together for this event in downtown Denver to create collaborative and unique brews that they offer up to the public. Put on by the Colorado Brewers Guild and Two Parts, the event is in its 5th year and has generated a real buzz. Each beer you’ll try at this festival was created by two or more breweries working together, and it has its own distinct flavors and story behind it. Grab your ticket and come take part in this creative, hop-filled event.

This one-of-a-kind event at the MCA Denver combines art, podcasts, and comedy. As part of their new Spring Event Series, the museum hosts “Shut Up & Listen!”, a night full of storytelling, a podcast taping, and live comedy. Denver’s local podcast, Raconteur Denver will be giving a live podcast based on exploring a new location, meeting new personalities, and exploring Denver’s wealth of diversity. This will be held in the museum’s cafe and will be followed by a stand up comedy act from Christie Buchele, an up-and-coming comic from Denver. Christie not only co-hosts the comedic relationship advice podcast “Empty Girlfriend”, but she’s also performed at several comedy festivals and open mics, delighting Denverites with her wit and surly humor. This event is sure to make for an educational, entertaining, and funny evening altogether.
It’s hard to find yourself bored in a city full of so many exciting attractions and events. Even in the winter months, Denver never disappoints with a plethora of musical, art, family-friendly, and cultural events.
