Whether you call the Mile High City home or you’re visiting, there are plenty of ways to enjoy this great city. With a rich culture and a variety of attractions and events to explore, it’s hard to get bored in Denver. While you could carve out your own adventure in the city, sometimes it’s nice to join a tour and have someone else guide you around. Here are some of the most interesting tours to check out in Denver:
This urban winery is nestled in the River North District and has a public tasting room for visitors to enjoy in their Wine Lab. While all of their wine is made right here in Denver, they source their fruit from the Western slope. Reserve your spot for one of the two tours this unique spot offers:
A 60-minute, $25 public tour where they guide you through the winery. You can taste five of their favorite bottled, kegged, and canned wines. You’ll also gain information about this unique winery along the way.
A 90-minute, $75 private barrel-tasting tour where they guide you through their winery and the winemaking process. You’ll get to taste their varieties that are aging in barrels.
For those with a sweet tooth, mark this free tour on your list. At Hammond’s Candy Factory, you can take a tour to see behind the scenes of this candy shop that’s been producing sweets since 1920. Along the way, you can sample plenty of treats, like their hand-pulled, hand-twisted ribbon candy, candy canes, and lollipops. Their free tours are offered Monday-Saturday.
The city is known for its passion for microbrews and craft-beer culture, and there are plenty of related tours to explore. This particular Denver Microbrew tour will take you on a 1.5 mile journey through either the historic Ballpark and LoDo districts, or the RiNo district. The RiNo tour is a more offbeat choice and includes some amazing street art along its route. On your tour, you’ll be guided by Denver craft brew experts who’ll teach about microbrews and take you to several of Denver’s best microbreweries. With some interactive beer trivia, a souvenir mini-goblet taster glass, and a pint of your choice at the end, this tour is tailor-made for craft brew enthusiasts. They offer reservations for tours on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Another free tour on your list should be at the Denver U.S. Mint, located on 320 West Colfax Avenue. Here, you can get an educational tour of where your money comes from. During their 45-minute free tour, you’ll learn about the rich history of coinage and the United States Mint as you journey through the facility. This fascinating tour allows you to get an up-close look at the many coins that stream off production lines. Tours are offered Monday through Thursday from 8:00am-3:30pm and are open to adults and children over the age of 7.
For those who love a good haunt, reserve a spot on a “Dark Side of Denver” ghost tour. On these tours, you’ll learn about historic creepy happenings in Denver, many of which occurred on the very streets you walk. You’ll venture into some of the city’s haunted buildings and learn about the hidden underground tunnels. From haunted hotels to bars and vaults, you’ll adventure on this walking tour and learn about some of the Mile High City’s most notorious ghost stories — a blend of history mixed with paranormal testimony. Their guides have been featured in travel magazines well as on television. Their tours are held Thursday through Saturday. They’re $20 per person and run about 1 hour and 45 minutes.
