Your Denver Bucket List

Your Denver Bucket List

| May 22, 2018 | Uncategorized

Whether you’re a local, recent transplant, or visitor, there are many singular experiences you should cross off your list while in Denver. Some are more touristy, while others are a bit more under-the-radar; together, they’ll give you the essence of the Mile High City. Here are the top things to experience while in Denver:

Enjoy a show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Seeing a summer concert at Red Rocks must be one of the most quintessential activities in the area. Look over their schedule, and find an artist to enjoy. They also have frequent workout classes, like “Yoga on the Rocks”, where you can sweat in the most serene of settings. Check out their summer “Film on the Rocks” series as well, where you can see a handpicked movie and performances by a live band and a local comedian before the show.

Attend First Friday Art Walk

First Fridays in Denver are made for celebrating the Arts. Venture over to the Santa Fe Art District to take part in their art walk, where artists open their galleries and studios to share their work with visitors. You can meet with artists and enjoy a beverage as you check out different installations in the area. This rain-or-shine event happens from 5:30-9:30pm on the first friday of the month.

Catch a free City Park Jazz Concert

It’s easy to get a taste of Denver’s incredible music scene through the many events around the city. One exciting free concert to check out is held on Sunday evenings in the summer in City Park. At the City Park Jazz shows, expect to find great music, food, and community in a beautiful outdoor space. Pack a picnic to enjoy with friends or sample from the many food trucks.

Conquer a 14er

Visitors may be unfamiliar with the term, but Denverites know it well — a 14er is a mountain over 14,000ft above sea level. If you enjoy the outdoors and being active, hiking a 14er should be on your Denver bucket list. Depending on your time and physical abilities, there are 53 peaks to choose from. You might see mountain goats and sheep along your journey, and you’ll definitely enjoy the fresh mountain air and beautiful Colorado views.

See a movie at the Mayan Theater

Catch a movie at the historic Mayan Theater which was built in 1930 and designed in the Art Deco Mayan style (one of only three in the country designed this way!). This theater shows indie and foreign films exclusively, so expect a little something different.

The Mayan Theater is located on South Broadway, and has a full bar so you can sip while you watch.

Grab a scoop at Little Man

Little Man opened in Denver only a decade ago, but it quickly became a favorite for fresh, homemade ice cream. The long line is worth it to try one of their delicious, unique flavors like their Salted Oreo or Earl Grey Tea & Cookies. A bonus — they’re located in a 28 foot-tall, 14,000lb. cream can, making it an eclectic visit all-round.

Kayak on the Platte River

One of the more active bucket-list activities in Denver is located in Confluence Park on the Platte River. Many kayakers enjoy taking a ride down the man-made whitewater course. Here, you can rent a kayak and work on your paddling skills while enjoying Denver from the river.

Visit a microbrewery (or two!)

Denver loves its craft beer and has countless options for every taste out there. Some recommended breweries to visit are Wynkoop Brewing Company, Denver’s first brewpub founded in 1988; Great Divide Brewing Co., an award-winning brewery that’s been brewing since 1994; and Renegade Brewing, located right in the Santa Fe Art district. If you’re interested in experiencing the world’s largest brewery, visit the Coors Brewery in Golden, just 12 miles from downtown Denver.

The Mile High City is well known for several things, including stunning mountain views, beautiful sunny days, and great music, art, food and beer. Whether you live in Denver or are visiting, these activities are certainly worth adding to your list.
