Denver’s Upcoming Don’t-Miss Music Festivals

| Jun 27, 2018 | Uncategorized

As the weather heats up in the Mile High City, music-lovers gravitate towards the many festivals offered. Whatever your music preferences, Denver likely has a music festival to suit them. Check out one of these great upcoming festivals, and drink in the local sounds and talent:

Underground Music Showcase (The UMS)

When: July 27-29, 2018

Where: South Broadway, Denver

This July, look for the Underground Music Showcase, or the UMS, happening at the end of the month. This is perhaps the most exciting indie festival in the state, and this year marks their 18th year running. The essence of this festival is to celebrate and share the local talent in the Denver community as well as national indie acts. You can expect an eclectic mix of musicians performing at this festival, mostly within the genres of indie rock, singer-songwriter, and indie folk music. As well as the over 200 high-energy acts, there will also be an array of craft beer, art, and comedy. This festival happens at four outdoor stages on South Broadway, as well as at over 20 indoor venues. Grab your tickets, discover some new artists, and celebrate the wonderful music scene of Denver.

Velorama Festival

When: Aug 17-19, 2018

Where: 27th and Blake St, Denver

Velorama is primarily a “celebration of the bike”, but this festival blends cycle-love with a huge celebration of music as well. Happening around the middle of August, this music festival pairs with the Colorado Classic, a famous professional bike race where top cyclists from around the world compete. The race will happen over the course of four days, two of which are in Denver on Aug 18th and 19th. The music festival will include headline acts like Matt and Kim and the Cold War Kids, as well as other famous indie-rock and hip-hop acts. They’ll also showcase local bands and offer a variety of bike-related activities to take part in. Expect a craft-brew and food-truck filled, three-day festival with the added excitement of the bike race.

A Taste of Colorado

When: Sept 1-3, 2018

Where: Civic Center Park, E. Broadway Ave. & Colfax Ave., Denver

Though its name doesn’t immediately sound music-centric, A Taste of Colorado is sure to be one of the major music events in Denver this season. Held on Labor Day weekend, this free festival in Civic Center Park is the place to sample exotic worldly cuisine as well as amazing local food from Colorado. In addition to the great food, this festival includes 120 bands playing music from diverse genres all weekend. The festival is family-friendly, with a “Kids Zone” full of interactive activities, games, and crafts. They also have an Arts & Crafts Marketplace where you can take home some artisan-made goods.

Grandoozy

When: Sept 14-16, 2018

Where: Overland Park Golf Course, 1801 S. Huron St., Denver

For its first year, the Grandoozy is taking over Denver this September for a “doozy” of music and activity. Headlining this huge festival are some major names in music like Stevie Wonder, Kendrick Lamar, and Florence and the Machine. The event was designed by the creators of festivals like Bonnaroo, so you can expect a unique and exciting ride. Other popular acts like the Chainsmokers and Young the Giant will be performing throughout the weekend. All-around, the Grandoozy promises to be a fantastic weekend of local food, drink, culture, and amazing music in Denver.

If you’re up for a trip outside of the city, there are plenty of other Colorado music festivals happening this season to check out. In historic Fort Collins, the Bohemian Nights at NewWestFest is happening August 10-12th. Over in Telluride, The Ride Festival, from July 14-15th, will host a blend of folk, rock, pop, and jam-band music. Later in the summer in Telluride, jazz fans will appreciate the Telluride Jazz Festival from August 3-5th. In Loveland, the ARISE Music Festival takes place August 3rd-5th at Sunrise Ranch with electronic, folk, and jam bands. For folk-lovers, the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival in Lyons along the St. Vrain River will be going on August 17-19th. Whether you choose to stay in Denver or venture a bit outside of the city, take advantage of the many wonderful festivals happening in Colorado over the next few months.
