Colorado’s mountain resorts are playgrounds for skiers and snowboarders in the winter season, and they have just as much to offer in the summer months. Whether you like music, hiking, mountain biking, or simply relaxing, there are plenty of reasons to visit Colorado’s mountain resorts this summer. They host some exciting events throughout the summer, so mark your calendars.

Winter Park is a great Colorado ski spot without the crowds of larger resorts. Visit in the summer for their Tequila and Tacos event where you can enjoy an afternoon of taco tasting and tequila sampling. This is its 3rd year running, and new this year is their chili cook-off, sanctioned by the International Chili Society. If you have an award-winning recipe, you can try your hand at competing, or you can spectate and sample. They’ll be giving away trophies and prize money to winners in the categories of Traditional Red, Homestyle, and Chili Verde. Winners also get the opportunity to compete in the 2018 World Champion Chili Cook-off in St Louis, MO. You can even sign up to be a chili judge if you consider yourself a connoisseur. They’ll have live music from The Rick Lewis Project & Felix Y Los Gatos to entertain all afternoon.

This music festival in Telluride is sure to be an exciting weekend in a stunning mountain setting. Come for one day or for the whole weekend to experience the talent in this carefully-curated lineup. The festival hosts bands in an interesting blend of genres, including folk, pop, rock and jam bands. The RIDE Festival has been going on since 2012, and it’s rapidly grown in popularity. On Friday, they’ll have a free sunset concert in Mountain Village. Visitors can even take a free gondola ride from Telluride to Mountain Village for the show. On Saturday and Sunday, the festival takes place in Telluride Town Park where main-stage bands will perform on the Fred Shellman Stage. Bands like Grace Potter, Sheryl Crow, and the String Cheese Incident will be headlining this year. If you want to enjoy some great music in a gorgeous mountain setting, this festival is a perfect choice.

At Bald Eagle Lake in Steamboat Springs, the second weekend in July marks the Hot Air Balloon Rodeo. It coincides with the Art in the Park event, making for a colorful weekend at this mountain resort. Both events have been going on for over 37 years, and it’s no wonder they’ve become so popular. This classic weekend event in Steamboat Springs kicks off early Saturday morning at 6:00AM on July 14th when they begin inflating the balloons. The rodeo starts soon after, at 6:30AM, where you can watch competitive balloon pilots engage in contests like dipping their balloon baskets into Bald Eagle Lake. The Art in the Park is a great way to engage the whole family, with interactive kids events throughout the day. Each night, make sure to catch the Balloon Glow event where the glow from the balloons lights up Mt. Werner.

For an art-filled weekend in Colorado, check out the River Run Village Art Festival in Keystone. More than 80 artists from all over the nation will gather to showcase and sell their finest works in River Run Village. While you’re there, you can also take advantage of many of the fun activities they offer throughout the summer. From horseback riding to fly-fishing and even wagon rides, Keystone has plenty of activities to fill up a fun mountain weekend.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of craft cider, or you’re curious to try what’s out there, this festival is a great way to taste some delicious cider in the beautiful scenery of Copper Mountain. In addition to exploring the cider scene, you can also check out their fantastic circus, including an aerialist show and musical acts. Friday kicks off with a cider and cheese pairing, and Saturday consists of a Grand Tasting and VIP Samplings. This is a ticketed event, so make sure to grab yours ahead of time.
Though winter-lovers in Colorado may count the days until the next snowfall, there are plenty of summer activities to enjoy at Colorado’s mountain resorts.
