| Jul 18, 2018 | Uncategorized

As the summer kicks into high gear, Denver residents and visitors love to get outside. For days when the hot summer sun has you needing to cool off, Denver has plenty of options. Whether you’re looking for a place to swim, recharge in some air conditioning, or indulge in a sweet treat, you won’t be disappointed. Here are some of the best spots in Denver to beat the heat this summer:

AikoPops

If the hot sun has you craving a cold treat, and you want to skip long lines at the most popular ice cream shops, it’s worth visiting some of the many other options in Denver. AikoPops is a great stop for a refreshing, unique ice pop. Their flavors range from Lavender Lemonade and Cucumber Sesame to more daring flavor combinations like their Honey Bleu Cheese and Peach Vanilla and Pumpkin with Sugared Bacon. They use organic and local ingredients to concoct their creative treats. This Pearl Street shop also serves up sandwiches and soup if you want to make an afternoon of it.

Pirate’s Cove Water Park

About a 20-minutes ride from Denver is Pirate’s Cove Water Park in Englewood. This a great spot to take your kids on a hot summer day. This reasonably-priced water park has plenty to entertain, including lanes for lap swimmers, a lazy river, a kiddie pool, a “sand beach”, and a variety of slides. With pirate-themed cannons and sound effects, this water park easily can become your kids’ favorite place to visit this summer. While your kids play, you can enjoy some time to cool off as well. They’re open daily from 10AM-6PM, weather permitting.

White Pie

For those who enjoy frozen cocktails, there’s one that’s gathering a lot of hype lately: Frosé. If you enjoy a cool glass of Rosé, you can now take it up a notch this summer. Try White Pie’s take on the refreshing drink, made with Rosé, Vermouth, and strawberry pureé. If Rosé’s not your style, they also have another great frozen cocktail donned the “Bee’s Knees”, made with Big Gin, local honey, and lemon. White Pie is known for their delicious and fresh pizza, so consider stopping in for dinner.

The Splash Aquatic Park

Water parks are a perfect option for parents with energetic kids who love to be outside. The Splash at Fossil Trace is one of the best budget aquatic parks around. Drive west about 20 minutes to Golden and you’ll be rewarded with a great little spot to cool off for the day. They have plenty to entertain kids, including a 300-gallon bucket dump, two slides, a splash pad, and a sandpit. Whether you’re in the mix cooling off with little ones or enjoying the lap pool for adults, the Splash is a wonderful option for a hot summer day.

SNÖBAHN

For Denverites who are ready to get back on the slopes, SNÖBAHN is an exciting place to get a break from the sun while practicing your moves for next winter. This air-conditioned indoor ski and snowboard center is the perfect place to get active and escape the heat. Less than 30 minutes from downtown Denver in Centennial, this indoor ski center offers beginners a place to fine-tune their skills and the more experienced to practice freestyle moves and other techniques. They also offer summer camps for kids.

Apex Center

The Apex Center is a unique space to beat the summer heat. Their indoor facility houses a water park with a kids swimming pool, a lap pool, tube slides, a vortex area, and other play areas. Admission into the center includes much more than the water park. It also includes access to their hot tubs, spas, locker room use, workout areas, and even a climbing wall. If you and your kids need a break from the sun but still want to enjoy a fun summer day, the Apex Center is a fantastic option.

Denver is a beautiful city year round, especially in the summer months. With seemingly endless sunny days, you’ll likely want some places to cool off. Whether you’d like to relax over a cold glass of Frosé or enjoy an afternoon splashing around with the family, Denver makes it easy to enjoy those hot summer days.
