As fall approaches, there’s much to enjoy in the Mile High City. Aside from the great hiking weather, there are plenty of festivals and events to visit this October. Read on for some of the major happenings to check out this month:
When: October 6th – 7th, 2018
Where: Four Mile Historic Park, 715 S Forest St., Denver, CO
Time: 10:00AM – 4:00PM
The Pumpkin Harvest Festival puts a historic spin on your typical autumn festival, and it’s right in Four Mile Historic Park in Denver. Taking place on the first weekend in October, this free festival will have live music, food vendors, a beer garden, and fair games. In addition to quintessential fair activities, you can also experience their educational demonstrations, tour the Four Mile House Museum, and see the park by horse-drawn wagon.
When: October 6th – 7th, 2018

Time: 12:00PM – 6:00PM each day
This musical event is not to be missed if you fancy bluegrass music, food trucks, craft beer, cider, and spirits. TheBigWonderful will host musical acts all weekend, including That Damn Sasquatch and DeadPhish Orchestra. They’ll have artist and craftsmen vendors to check out as well. If you subscribe online with your email, your general admission is free, though Beerfest within the event does require tickets.
When: October 12th – 14th, 2018
Where: Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield – Littleton, CO
Time: 9:00AM – 5:00PM each day
This Pumpkin Festival is held at the Denver Botanic Gardens. Once you have your ticket in hand, you’ll have access to their giant pumpkin patch, hayrides, live music, plenty of food, drink and craft vendors, and carnival games for kids. This is a family-friendly event, with face painting, a mini-maze, and kids’ obstacle courses. They recommend you buy your tickets in advance online, as this is a popular event with limited tickets.
When: October 13th – 14th, 2018
Where: National Western Complex, 4655 Humboldt St., Denver, CO
The Maker Faire in Denver is an event that the entire family can enjoy. It’s referred to as the “Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth”, with a weekend of scientists, artists, and hobbyists showcasing their experiments, creations, and inventions. There will be hands-on activities to participate in and competitions and presentations to observe. You may just leave inspired to create something yourself. Buy your tickets online ahead of time for a discounted rate.

Time: 4:00PM – 7:00PM
If you’re looking for a way to connect with the harvest season, mark Croptoberfest on your calendar. Happening on the second Saturday in October, the Table Urban Farm in Denver hosts this all-out harvest celebration. That evening, they’ll have a donation-based pig roast dinner as well as live music, a pumpkin patch, and other family-friendly activities. Register online to secure your spot.

In the second half of the month, a spooky festival to check out is Westminster’s Halloween Harvest Festival. This free event will have activities like a hot-air balloon glow, live band performances, a bonfire, and a barbecue competition. Kids can enjoy free carnival games, jumping castles, and trick-or-treating. They’ll have plenty of food and drink as well, including food trucks and a beer garden.

If you’re truly ready to embrace the autumn spirit, sign up for The Great Pumpkin Hall. This race includes a 2-mile obstacle course through forests, creeks, and fields — all while carrying a pumpkin. People often dress up in festive Halloween wear for this fitness competition and are rewarded at the end with a fall festival complete with food trucks, hot apple cider, craft brews, and hay rides. They even have pre-haul classes to get you ready that morning, like their Pumpkin Yoga class and Pumpkin Bootcamp.
