Denverites are serious about their coffee. The coffee scene in this city is expanding and growing in complexity, and there are countless coffee shops to prove it. While coffee and coffee-shop preferences are far and wide, here are five of the most popular coffee shops in Denver getting some well-deserved buzz:

Little Owl Coffee

The first coffee shop to explore is nestled in the LoDo area at the base of the Sugar Cube Building on Blake Street. Here you’ll find a great spot to meet with a friend over coffee and to enjoy their locally-roasted farm-to-cup experience. They specialize in pour-overs, like Chemex and Aeropress, as well as craft espresso drinks made with single-origin and single-estate coffees. Their drinks aren’t exactly at a bargain price, but they’re worth the little splurge for those wanting to indulge in a high-quality brew. The space itself is small and intimate, with a sleek atmosphere and an outdoor patio to enjoy your morning latte. This favorite downtown spot also makes their own almond milk, another draw for dairy-free coffee drinkers.

Crema Coffee House

For a quintessential coffee shop with a quality product, consider heading to Crema in the RiNo district. Located on Larimer Street, this shop is filled with colorful local art and has an eclectic urban atmosphere. With large front windows and exposed brick, this creative spot is a great place to spend a morning or afternoon. They brew their coffee using over 22 local and nationwide roasters with rotating bean varieties. They’re a popular spot, yet they’re known for their speed despite the lines. If you decide to grab a bite to eat, they also offer fresh food options made daily with quality ingredients. A plus for eco-conscious visitors, they use compostable cups to cut down on plastic waste.

Novo Coffee

Novo has four different locations as well as a roastery right in Denver, making it a convenient spot to try. They’re located in Glenarm, Gilpin, Highlands, and Hilltop, but their most popular spot is their Glenarm location at 1600 Glenarm Pl. Denverites rave about their delicious espresso drinks as well as the beautiful latte art they create. They’re also popular for their refreshing cold brew. With free wifi and an urban patio, this modern cafe is popular for those looking to get a little work done. They also serve Kombucha and a few local beer options on tap. If you’re a real coffee enthusiast, visit their roastery in RiNo where you can stop by on Fridays 1:00-4:00PM for an educational coffee cupping or tasting.

The Molecule Effect

This experimental coffeehouse is located in Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe. The Molecule Effect is a locally-owned shop where you can find local coffee, tea, kombucha, and other ingredients — all from Denver. They have all of the classic iced and hot coffee drinks you’d expect, as well as a host of special house drinks. The house drinks change regularly, but some favorites have included their Brown Sugar Lavender Mocha and the Great Decker Divide made with both white and dark hot chocolate. They’ve also integrated a wine bar into their coffee shop, with curated cocktails and craft beer options. Whether you’re in the mood for a unique twist on your morning beverage or an evening Espresso Martini, this is the perfect spot.

The Bardo Coffee House

The Bardo Coffee House has two Denver locations — their original on South Broadway and their newer location on West 38th Avenue in the Wheat Ridge / Berkeley area. They’re locally owned and use local Kaladi Roasters beans, a popular Denver choice. They have all of the classic espresso and coffee drinks, and the major standout feature of Bardo is their operating hours. Each location is open daily from 6AM to midnight, making it a perfect spot for night owls. With free wifi and cozy seating areas, Bardo makes for a great work spot or a place to catch up with a friend. The older location on South Broadway gives you the feeling of being at home, with couches and dim lighting. Their newest West 38th Avenue spot has a more updated feel, but still with plenty of seating options like community tables, bar tops, and even couches and chairs. Visit either location for a fresh cup where you can relax in their welcoming atmosphere.

Whether you’re looking for the freshest beans to energize your morning or searching for just the right vibe for your afternoon macchiato, the coffee scene in Denver has something for everyone. From coffeehouses with the perfect homemade almond-milk latte to those with a hip atmosphere and extended hours, it’s easy to find a coffee shop (or several) to suit you. The next time you need a caffeine fix, give one of these great cafes a try.
